| Amar |
 |
| Amar
is an Indian pop star who some years ago made a name
for herself in the UK with her soulful Hindi remake
of Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You". She
then collaborated with Talvin Singh in his first album,
which featured many of the best Asian artists Anokha:
Soundz Of The Asian Underground, (named so
because of their Asian or Anglo-Asian backgrounds).
The album was a blend of Indian musical culture with
Western dance, supported by amped-up sounds of Talvin's
tabla and percussion. Recently she collaborated with
the Algerian Rai singer Khaled and was featured in
his latest album Kenza (in the superb song
El Harba Wine). Amar has released her first solo album
titled Outside (on WEA) last June. The first
2 songs we present here are from Talvin Singh's album,
and the 3rd is a remix with Mc
Rankin of a track from her solo album. |

Monsoon and in subsequent albums, she brought Indian
classical structures, Indian pop, and Western music
together. Quiet 3 is
from Narada 2003 release The Indipop Retrospective.
Sacred Stones comes from
Weaving My Ancestor's Voices, Sheila's first
record for Peter Gabriel's Real World Label, and Waiting
is from The Zen Kiss, a Moonsung production
